SCSO Probes I-90 DUI Case

A serious accident on Interstate 90 in the area of Big Creek that was caused by drunk driving disrupted traffic for several hours on Sunday evening. A 911 dispatcher received multiple reports of a red SUV moving uncontrollably in the westbound direction. Shoshone County Sheriff’s Captain Seth Green reports that a deputy was dispatched to the scene, and saw a red Dodge Durango trying to overtake a semi-truck by driving at the side of the road. The driver lost control, crossed both lanes, and ended up in the opposite traffic, colliding head-on with a white sedan.

The Durango driver, who escaped from his damaged car, bizarrely asked the deputy to shoot him. Noticing the potential danger of the situation, the deputy tried to arrest the driver, who resisted until two passersby assisted the officer.

The Durango driver, 27-year-old Jerry Best from Wallace, was arrested and is facing charges including reckless driving, DUI, driving without privileges, and resisting arrest. Remarkably, both Best and the driver of the sedan escaped with only minor injuries, according to Green.
