A man from Kirksville was tragically killed in a drunk-driving accident, with the driver responsible still on the loose. The article, penned by John Garlock-KTVO and CBS 17 based in Fayetteville, N.C., was dated Thursday, April 11, 2024. The victim was identified as 59-year-old Tony Prewitt, who lived in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was born in Kirksville in 1964 and lived there until he was 12, before his family relocated to Keokuk, Iowa. Tony’s mother, Karen, and sister, Tessa, reside in Kirksville, while his brother, Todd, lives outside Kahoka.

The suspect is identified as 40-year-old Keavin Thompson, who allegedly ran a red light, causing the deadly crash. Thompson is being charged with second-degree murder and DWI. He was initially taken to a hospital following the accident.
