A man was arrested early Friday in Lake City after his car was hit by a train, according to city officials. Thomas Ard, 19, of New Zion, was charged with driving under the influence after failing a sobriety test. His vehicle was either stuck or had veered off the crossing onto the tracks around 12:20 am. Chief Patrick Miles of the Lake City Police Department noted that Ard was able to exit his vehicle before the train collision and did not suffer any injuries. Upon responding to the incident, officers detected the smell of alcohol, prompting a field sobriety test which Ard failed. He is currently detained at the local detention center. The train impacted the vehicle at the Fairview Street crossing but did not derail. The scene was cleared, and the crossing reopened before morning.
