Just before the Super Bowl, Patrick Mahomes’ dad, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, has been apprehended, suspecting DUI. He could potentially face prison time up to 10 years. As the Chiefs gear up to play against the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl in Las Vegas on Sunday, February 11, such a predicament can potentially distract Mahomes.
The recent arrest of Patrick Mahomes Senior is his third DUI offence, and it took place in Texas, just over a week prior to the Super Bowl. Despite previously cheering for his son at playoff games, he now faces a jail term.
Under the laws of Texas, if convicted, Mahomes Senior is liable to receive a prison term ranging from 2 to 10 years since it’s his third DUI offence. Mahomes Senior has past convictions and had served 40 days of jail time over weekends in 2019 and 2020 for his second DUI charge. Following this arrest, his bond was set at 10,000 dollars and he was released from Smith County Jail the afternoon of the following day.
Several NFL enthusiasts expressed concerns about the potential impact of his father’s arrest on Mahomes Junior’s upcoming Super Bowl performance. Some users on social media pointed out that it could be challenging for Mahomes Jr. to focus on the game given these circumstances. It’s a tough situation to handle, particularly being under public scrutiny.
