Patrick Mahomes’ Dad Admits to Drinking Before DWI Arrest

Patrick Mahomes Sr., father of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested in Tyler, Texas, on a DWI charge for the third time, as per jail records. He was pulled over by the police last week and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, a fact confirmed by an affidavit from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred eight days before his son’s scheduled appearance in Super Bowl 2024 against the 49ers in Las Vegas. In a shocking revelation, Mahomes Sr. told the police that he “had a few beers while watching a game at a local bar”, admitting to drinking while driving.

The arrest signifies the third charge on Mahomes Sr. for driving while intoxicated, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in jail and a fine of $10,000. He willingly took part in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, showing signs of intoxication during several tests.

In the words of the arresting officer, the overall conditions led him to believe that Patrick was noticeably impaired whilst operating a vehicle in public. Mahomes Sr., an ex-MLB player, was previously prosecuted with a second DUI charge in 2018, leading to a 40-day prison sentence.

Mahomes Sr. divorced his ex-wife, Randi, in 2006. Their other son Jackson Mahomes was arrested last year on a serious sexual battery charge, accused of assaulting a restaurant owner. The charges were later dismissed. Despite his own arrest, Mahomes Sr. was present during his son’s playoff games this year. The arrest happened eight days prior to his son’s Super Bowl 2024 game against the 49ers in Las Vegas, slated for February 11.
