A woman from Henderson, Texas was arrested following a car crash which left one person severely injured due to her alleged intoxicated condition. Tiffany Nicole Carter, age 24, has been charged with causing serious bodily injury by intoxication assault with a vehicle.
A report from the Texas Department of Public Safety indicates that troopers were dispatched on February 13 just after 8:30 p.m. to an accident involving two vehicles in Midland County at the intersection of SH-349 and CR-132. Investigators discovered that a collision had taken place between a GMC Acadia and a Cadillac DTS.
Carter, who was driving the Cadillac, reportedly confessed uncertainty about the events that culminated in the accident. She additionally told investigators she was unclear regarding which direction she was driving in at the time of the crash, misstated the type of intersection where the crash occurred, and could not remember the road on which she was traveling.
From what could be gathered from the scene and witnesses, it seemed that Carter was driving eastward on CR-132 when she failed to yield to right of way at the intersection, crashing into the side of the GMC, which was carrying a man and a pregnant woman. The man was seriously injured, sustaining a broken leg, and was transported to a local hospital.
While interacting with investigators, Carter reportedly admitted to having consumed three large cans of Twisted Tea prior to getting into her vehicle; this, combined with her failure to perform successfully in a series of field sobriety tests, lead investigators to believe she was intoxicated.
As of Thursday afternoon, Carter was being held at the Midland County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.
