A notable Albuquerque police officer resigned during an FBI investigation into dismissed drunk driving cases after 18 years on the police force. Joshua Montaño quit shortly after being called to provide a statement for an Internal Affairs investigation sparked by claims of corruption within the DWI unit over the past decade. Montaño was one of the central officers scrutinized. The investigation is part of a larger probe into potential misconduct within the Albuquerque police department’s handling of DWI cases over the last ten years. Montaño has not given a comment regarding his resignation. Some others under investigation amongst the police force have also begun to resign. Montaño and the other officers under scrutiny have denied all allegations. The former officer was not available for comment on the situation.
