The content was published and updated on April 8, 2024 at 6:19 PM EDT. It reveals further details about the DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) arrest of the highly-placed NFL Draft hopeful, T’Vondre Sweat, which occurred on a Sunday.

According to an account from the Austin Police Department, Sweat’s vehicle collided with a sedan. He was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving following the accident. The driver of the sedan involved in the incident decided to escape the scene on foot, which prompted a police investigation. Sweat was later released on a bond of $3,000.

There was video footage captured, which showed Sweat, one of the top defensive linemen, come out from Travis County Jail with a towel draped over his face on Sunday afternoon. As per the statement from the Austin Police Department, Sweat was arrested because they suspected him of driving under influence. It also mentioned that immediately after the crash, the driver of the sedan involved left the scene on foot.

Sweat, being one of the most sought-after NFL Draft prospects, found the timing of his arrest quite unfavorable. Despite his recent issues, reports from OutKick stated that Sweat was evaluated as a top-five talent in his position. He was anticipated to be selected toward the end of the first round.

Sweat is now facing a misdemeanor DWI charge. According to Texas law, this could lead to him facing a fine of up to $2,000 and a potential jail term of up to 180 days. With Sweat’s recent issue off-the-field, NFL general managers could possibly rethink his evaluation. The initial projection was for Sweat to be picked up at No. 20 by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sweat is also the younger brother of former fourth-round pass rusher Josh Sweat.

It was reported by CBS Sports that Sweat is scheduled to have meetings with the Tennessee Titans and the Seattle Seahawks this week, notwithstanding his arrest. Sweat’s situation now begs the question of whether teams will take a risk on drafting him.
