An Evansville man, known as Taylor Utley, aged 32, was arrested on DUI charges after allegedly striking a pole and another vehicle due to falling asleep while driving, as per witness accounts. Officers were called at 1:15 a.m. Sunday to the 5600 block of Spring Lake Drive where they found a silver SUV with significant damage to the front driver’s side. Utley, the driver, was found with a bleeding nose and his speech was slurred.
Before driving home, Utley admitted to drinking beer at a bar, purchasing a bottle from a liquor store, and consuming a few shots. Following an attempt at field sobriety tests, he allegedly consented to a breath test where he reportedly registered a BAC level of .15. There were allegations that Utley was spotted asleep at the wheel by witnesses who took a picture of him before he woke up, shouted at them, and sped away only to crash into a pole and a vehicle.
At the hospital, Utley reportedly refused a chemical test. He was subsequently detained at the Vanderburgh County Jail and charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, Leaving the Scene of a Crash, and Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test. The information was provided courtesy of Vanderburgh County Jail.
During this incident, pole rewiring had occasioned periodic closures.
