Man Arrested for DWI, Assault on BCSO Deputy

In Albuquerque, New Mexico, citizens have witnessed the efforts of Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Moore in apprehending a man who fled the scene of a crash. Footage from the bodycam on the deputy depicts the difficulty with which Deputy Moore had to deal in taking the man into custody.

The individual, Frank Vargas, has been charged with multiple offenses following a confrontation with Deputy Moore on March 29th. Vargas abandoned his crashed vehicle near Paseo del Norte and 2nd, prompting a chase led by Deputy Moore.

Vargas was apprehended after Deputy Moore managed to catch up to him and tackle him to the ground. During their scuffle, Vargas attempted to restrain Deputy Moore, but the deputy was able to free himself.

Additional officers arrived promptly and assisted with bringing Vargas into custody. Following the incident, Deputy Moore provided an account of the events. Medical personnel were called to the scene to administer a checkup on both the deputy and Vargas.

It is believed that Vargas was under the influence of alcohol during the crash. He now faces charges for leaving the scene of an accident, escape from law enforcement, battery against a peace officer, and serious intoxicated driving.
