NJ Man Sentenced 4 Years for DWI Crash Injuring Woman

A man from Ocean County, named William Andujar, was given a four-year prison sentence for a car accident in 2020 in Berkeley Township, which resulted in serious injuries to a woman. Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer confirmed the news on Saturday.

52-year-old Andujar, a resident of Whiting, admitted his guilt in December 2023 for committing an aggravated assault. The accident took place when he was driving under the influence of alcohol and methadone, according to law enforcement authorities.

The accident took place on West Pinewald Keswick Road, Berkeley Township around 7 p.m. on November 2, 2020. The police discovered that Andujar, who was driving westbound, hit the back of another car, which was being driven by a woman in her mid-40s from South Toms River. The crash caused both cars to leave the road and end up in a nearby forest.

The woman suffered severe injuries in the accident and was flown to the Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. Despite being released from the medical facility, she is still in recovery. Andujar was also injured, and during his treatment at the hospital, authorities administered a sobriety test. Tests revealed his blood alcohol was 0.18, more than twice the state’s legal limit. The tests also found a substantial amount of methadone in Andujar’s system.

On November 24, 2020, police arrested Andujar and charged him with automobile assault. Further investigation led to a charge of aggravated assault on December 8, 2020. Since his arrest, Andujar has been held in Ocean County Jail. As per the No Early Release Act, he needs to serve 85% of his sentence. Due to violations of probation, he received an additional one-year sentence to be served following his initial term. As of now, Andujar’s attorney was not available for comment.
