66-year-old Deborah Ervay of Newfield was arrested for drunk driving after being involved in a two-car accident in Ithaca. The accident happened around 4:30 pm on January 17, at the crossroads of Elmira Road and Five Mile Drive. Upon reaching the accident site, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies commenced an investigation.

From their observations, the deputies noticed that Ervay seemed impaired. After interviewing her and further investigating, they charged Ervay with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol content above 0.08%, both of which are misdemeanors. She was also charged with tailgating.

Ervay was given an appearance ticket to present herself before the Town of Ithaca Court to respond to the charges on a future date. She was let go from the accident scene into the custody of a sober third person. This incident emphasizes the ongoing issue of drunk driving and road safety in that area.
