During the holiday period from November 22 through New Year’s Eve, law enforcement officials from 279 agencies across the state arrested over 2,400 drivers under the influence. With the arrest total reaching 2,432, this tops the preceding year’s holiday campaign that saw about 200 fewer arrests.
The highest blood alcohol level recorded was .46 in Lakeville, almost six times above the legal limit. In Olmstead County, one repeat offender was arrested for her seventh DWI with a blood alcohol level of .27 while on her way to get her kids.
On a regional scale, the Bemidji Police Department ranked in the top seven agencies for DWI arrests in greater Minnesota, tallying 35 arrests.
