A seasoned fire captain from South Florida was apprehended and charged with DUI, according to documents. Capt. Trond Welters of the Miramar Fire Department was detained on Monday night on four counts, which included DUI, DUI resulting in personal or property damage, and fleeing from an accident site causing property damage, according to Broward jail documents. The documents also revealed that Welters was taken into custody in Weston, but no more details were provided.
Welters, who is 59 years old, has been serving in the Miramar Fire Department for nearly three decades. Department officials told NBC6 that they are examining the occurrence. During his court hearing on Tuesday, Welters was awarded a $2,000 bond and commanded to abstain from consuming alcohol. Information about his lawyer was unavailable.
