Florida Woman Faces DUI Manslaughter Charges after Bicyclist Fatal Hit in Ocala

FOX 35 News is reporting on a fatal accident in Ocala, Florida where a female driver suspected of driving under the influence (DUI) struck and killed a bicyclist. The woman, 43-year-old Elizabeth Pizzonia, was later arrested on charges of DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal accident, according to a news release by the Ocala Police Department.

The incident occurred on Sunday, Jan. 7, on NW Blitchton Road, and the victim was later identified as 61-year-old Louis Osiel. Although Pizzonia initially fled the scene after the collision, she eventually returned. According to the police, her speech was slurred, her eyes were bloodshot, and they could smell alcohol on her breath. She reportedly exhibited signs of impairment during field sobriety tests and refused both a voluntary blood sample and the legally required breath test.

Pizzonia is currently being held without bond in the Marion County jail.
