Escondido Residents Die in Suspected DUI on I-15

Residents of Escondido, identified as Daniel Vicente Delgadillo, 26, and Alexa Pauline Lavigne, 24, were the victims of a fatal pile-up on Interstate 15 near Miramar, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office. The accident, which occurred on March 16 just before 2:45 a.m., involved a Honda Civic driven by Delgadillo and Lavigne hitting a Toyota 4-Runner from behind. Post the impact, their vehicle became immobile and drifted into other lanes, leading to a collision with a Chevrolet pickup truck. The pair were thrown out of their car and died on the spot. County officials revealed that an Apple device alerted authorities about the crash, leading to emergency services being dispatched to the location. The Honda driver, a 25-year-old from Escondido, and the 22-year-old Sun City man driving the pickup were both apprehended on suspicion of DUI (driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs).
