Albuquerque Lt. Resigns During DWI Unit Investigation

An officer from the Albuquerque Police Department (APD), currently under federal investigation in relation to the DWI unit, has stepped down. Lt. Justin Hunt is the officer in question, confirmed as one of five officers who were put on leave roughly two weeks ago. Hunt had served in the DWI unit from 2011 to 2014. According to records, Hunt’s name appeared in 18 DWI cases since 2011, with 15 of those being dismissed. Thomas Clear III, a criminal defense lawyer who is also under investigation, was Hunt’s attorney in a divorce case in 2014 and has also worked on numerous DWI cases. The other officers identified in the investigation are Honorio Alba Jr., Harvey Johnson Jr., Joshua Montano, and Nelson Ortiz, who are currently on leave and have been added to the Brady-Giglio list.
