Three Albuquerque Fire Rescue members were arrested last month on suspicion of drunk driving and new details have surfaced about the arrest of one of them. Mateo Keyohara, a 27-year-old firefighter, was noticed by Albuquerque police near Rio Grande and Indian School on March 22 for speeding and nearly causing a collision.
After being pulled over near an Allsup’s convenience store, Keyohara revealed his profession immediately. During sobriety tests, he struggled with following instructions and maintaining his balance which led to his arrest. At the station, Keyohara continuously asked to speak with his union representative and lieutenant before consenting to a breathalyzer test.
Following a half-hour delay, Keyohara eventually agreed to the test. The results indicated that his blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, leading to his placement on administrative leave pending further probe. He is set to face the court on Monday to deal with the legal implications of his actions.
