Canyon Lake DUI Checkpoint Leads to Arrests, Citations, Tows

Friday’s DUI Checkpoint in Canyon Lake city led to the inspection of 1008 vehicles by deputies. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Lake Elsinore Station spearheaded the operation, resulting in two DUI arrests, a vehicular pursuit leading to an arrest, 22 unlicensed or suspended drivers being given citations, a misdemeanor arrest warrant being enforced, and the towing of ten vehicles.

The operation took place on Railroad Canyon Road and Sorrell Lane between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m.

The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) provided a $34,358.00 grant to fund the ongoing enforcement and education initiatives aimed at reducing severe injuries and fatalities on Canyon Lake city roads.

On December 8, 2023, a saturation patrol led to four DUI arrests. During the Canyon Lake City Council’s December 2023 meeting, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department disclosed plans for three more saturation patrols before the grant period ends on September 30, 2024. Prior announcements are not necessary for saturation patrols.
