The drunk driving incident involving Karen Huger, the Grand Dame from Real Housewives of Potomac, is seemingly worse than initially thought. Firefighters reportedly had to rescue her from her car after it caught fire.
The first reports suggested that Karen’s solo car crash was a narrowly-averted disaster. It could have ended tragically, especially if she was under the influence as suspected by the Montgomery County Police.
Karen refused a breathalyzer test at the scene, blaming her reported aggressive driving prior to the accident on her emotional state. She mentioned that a discussion about her late mother earlier that night had significantly affected her.
Further details in an incident report publicized by Radar Online, reveal the true potential danger of the situation. Karen was fortunate to sustain only slight injuries, considering that firefighters had to extract her from the wreck, and her Maserati was on fire.
Authorities at the scene managed to put out a small fire under the vehicle using a water extinguisher, according to the report.
Both police and firefighters arrived at the accident scene around 11:50 PM on Tuesday. Karen was taken into custody after refusing to submit a blood alcohol test. Arresting charges included impaired and drunk driving.
Karen faces additional criminal charges, including negligent driving, reckless driving, and driving with a suspended registration. She’s also charged with failing to control vehicle speed to avoid a collision and exceeding a reasonable speed on the highway.
After her release, Karen had her driving license suspended. She has yet to respond to the criminal charges officially, but she will need to do so at an upcoming mandatory court hearing.
Thankfully, no serious injuries occurred, including to the Grand Dame herself. Karen expressed gratitude to a “Guardian Angel” for guarding her from what could have been a direct collision. She hopes the same divine intervention happens when she faces the court.
