2 Drivers Arrested for Suspected DUI in Fatal I-15 Crash, Miramar

On Saturday, a fatal three-car accident on a freeway in Miramar resulted in two deaths, with two of the drivers being arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). The accident occurred at 2:45 a.m. on Interstate 15 near Miramar Way, as said by the California Highway Patrol.

A Honda Civic hit the rear of a Toyota 4-Runner driven by a local San Diego resident while travelling north on I-15. The Honda was then hit by a Chevrolet Colorado driven by a man from Sun City. The Honda’s two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, as per the California Highway Patrol.

Drivers of the Honda and Colorado, 25-year-old Esteban Coronado and 22-year-old Joseph Michael Martin respectively, were allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Both were arrested and incarcerated at San Diego County Jail, as stated by the California Highway Patrol.

Due to the investigation, the northbound lanes were shut down for approximately three and a half hours and traffic was rerouted to the High Occupancy Vehicle lanes on I-15 northbound.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has withheld the names of the deceased pending the notification of their families. Authorities requested anyone with knowledge about the accident to contact the California Highway Patrol at their phone number, 858-293-6000.
