This episode was expected to be discussed during a Wednesday executive session of the San Antonio City Council for the first time. The meeting’s agenda from January 10 specified an item concerning “legal issues associated with Councilmember provisions under the City Charter,” presumably connected to Whyte’s DWI arrest, as conjectured by the Express-News. Whyte was stopped by law enforcement on Loop-410 near the airport and subsequently charged with DWI. The City Council had not convened since mid-December. San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg has openly condemned Whyte’s behavior. Meanwhile, others like District 5’s Teri Castillo have called for more information on the matter. Whyte took over from the previous District 10 councilman, Clayton Perry, who chose not to seek a fourth term following a hit-and-run incident in Northwest San Antonio that led to him being charged with a DWI.
