Information has been revealed about the DWI arrest that took place on Sunday involving former Texas Longhorns defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat. Reports from LoneStarLive.com state that Texas redshirt freshman linebacker S’Maje Burrell was operating a Blue 2020 Dodge sports car which collided with an Orange 2023 Ford Bronco handled by Sweat. The collision caused the Bronco to go out of control and turn on its side on a service road in the north part of Interstate 35 SB, close to 5 am on Sunday.
Austin Police Department reported that Burrell fled the accident scene. More than 12 hours post the incident occurrence, his father Lorenzo Burrell, an Officer at the Fort Worth Police Department contacted APD about the accident. Although Burrell wasn’t arrested or charged with a crime, as per a Horns247’s Wednesday report, he is no longer part of the program.
At the time police reached the accident site, Sweat admitted to driving the Bronco. Officers observed that Sweat had glassy eyes, bad balance, smelled of alcohol and the presence of a burnt marijuana odor. Sweat admitted to consuming two to three tequila shots prior to driving. His field sobriety tests failed and his breath sample indicated a concentration of .105 alcohol, surpassing the legal limit of .008. A blood sample was also collected.Sweat was released on Sunday, after posting a $3,000 bond.
