A man identified as Juan Moxthe, 45, from Wood Dale, has been charged with driving under the influence and causing a fatal accident near O’Hare Airport. The accident, which resulted in the death of his stepdaughter, occurred when Moxthe’s car, carrying three family members, crashed around 2:30 a.m. last Sunday on West Irving Park Road in Bensenville.
Authorities stated that the vehicle collided with a median guardrail and subsequently overturned multiple times. Moxthe’s stepdaughter, 28-year-old Jaylene Escamilla of Addison, was thrown from the car during the crash and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Two hours post-crash, Moxthe’s Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) was reported to be 0.12, according to the DuPage County State Attorney’s office. Commenting on the incident, DuPage County State Attorney Robert Berlin stressed the importance of not driving after consuming alcohol, expressing that the incident was entirely avoidable had alternative transportation been used.
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with the funeral expenses of Escamilla, who was a mother to three children aged 1, 2, and 8. Laura Sanchez, the organizer of the page, remembers Escamilla as a generous individual who positively impacted those around her.
Moxthe, who also sustained severe injuries from the crash, is set to appear in court on January 8 charged with aggravated DUI causing death.
