St. George DUI Incident: Driver Charged, 4 Trees & 30 Bushes Damaged, No Injuries

A photo depicting extensive damage from an incident involving an allegedly impaired driver was released by the St. George police department in Utah on March 3, 2024. The driver, under the influence, spun into a median, doing damage to the landscape but fortunately avoiding any people or cars.

The photo was displayed on social media as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving when impaired. According to the post, the driver lost control of his car, spinning into the median and destroying four trees and roughly 30 bushes before finally stopping in the oncoming lanes. Luckily, no other cars were struck in the incident.

The man who was under the influence caused considerable damage to the landscape, similar to a buzz saw. He was subsequently apprehended and charged with driving under the influence according to a statement from the St. George Police Department.

St. George City Parks and Trails got involved due to the extensive amount of branches and debris scattered across all four lanes. One of the damaged trees leaning into a lane had to be removed entirely.

Although no one was harmed, a considerable amount of city property was destroyed as a result of this reckless decision. The police statement stressed that such incidents were entirely unnecessary and avoidable.

They implored those who might be impaired to consider alternatives such as calling a friend, using ride sharing services like Uber or Lyft, or simply waiting until they get home to drink. The statement concluded with a stern warning: never drive under the influence.
