Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, has been officially charged in Texas with a third offense felony Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). The ex-Major League Baseball player was indicted last Thursday and could potentially face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
The charges derive from an incident on February 3 where Mahomes Sr. was pulled over during a routine traffic stop and showed signs of impairment. He also had an open beer in his car. His son was asked to comment on the situation during a media event for Super Bowl LVIII but chose not to comment.
Prior to this, Mahomes Sr. has twice been convicted for DUI, in 2012 and 2018, spending about 40 days in jail after his second offense. As most states often impose stricter punishments for recurring DUI incidents, this recent offense serves as a wakeup call for those who might consider operating their vehicles under the influence. In today’s world, everyone has access to ride-hailing apps right at their fingertips, making it safer and more convenient to avoid driving at risk.
