In December, Wes Phillips, the Offensive Coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings and aged 44, was responsible for a DWI offense. However, prosecutors facilitated his plea to a less severe misdemeanor of careless driving, replacing the initial charge.

Revised on February 16, 2024, at 9:37 am, following the original statement on the same date at 9:17 am, Phillips agreed to a plea bargain regarding his drink-driving arrest that happened earlier in December.

The incident occurred on December 8, when Phillips was stopped for exceeding the speed limit on Interstate 374 in Minneapolis around 9:45 pm. He seemed impaired, and his Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) was 0.10 percent, which is higher than the legal limit, which is 0.08 percent under the state law. Subsequently, he was arrested and placed in Hennepin County Jail on a misdemeanor DWI charge at 11:00 pm. Later, he posted a bond of $300 and was let go just before 1:30 am on the following Saturday.

As part of his plea agreement, Phillips is required to pay a fine of $300 and a surcharge of $78. He also must provide eight hours of community service.

The Vikings, in a statement, revealed that Phillips informed the team immediately after his arrest. The team contacted the NFL and, after internal deliberations, made a decision for Phillips to accompany the team to Las Vegas. The team added that they will continue to obtain information about the incident and will issue further statements when deemed appropriate.
