An incident took place in Greenwich near Exit 3 on I-95 at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Friday, March 22. Connecticut State Police reported that they observed through DOT highway camera footage a red vehicle stopped on the south shoulder of the Exit 3 ramp. The vehicle was seen reversing on the right shoulder, then across the right and middle lanes as other drivers avoided a collision.
After reaching the entrance ramp of Exit 3, the red vehicle turned around and began heading north near Exit 5. A trooper identified the vehicle as a Honda HRV driving south on I-95 close to Exit 2 and pulled it over. The driver, identified as 49-year-old Flavia Cristina De Almeida Gomes from West Harrison in Westchester County, was suspected of impaired driving. Following failed field sobriety tests, Gomes was arrested and taken to Troop G in Bridgeport.
She was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs, not maintaining her lane, driving in the wrong direction on a divided highway, unsafe backing, parking improperly, and reckless endangerment. She later posted a $2,500 cash bond and was released.
