In other news, a man from Hudson tragically lost his life in a head-on collision that is suspected to involve drunk driving. This incident occurred in St. Croix County, western Wisconsin on Wednesday night.

The St. Croix County sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene of the crash, which took place near Hammond, at around 9:30 p.m. On arrival, they found a severely damaged Volkswagen Passat on the road and a Toyota 4Runner in a nearby ditch.

The Passat had three passengers, none of whom were wearing seat belts during the incident. They were rushed to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. A 21-year-old passenger, Isaiah K. Barnes, was later declared dead at the hospital. The driver, another 21-year-old man from Hammond, along with a 34-year-old passenger from Bruce, were injured.

The occupants of the 4Runner – a 60-year-old man from New Richmond and a 54-year-old man from Hammond – were treated at the scene and were fortunate to walk away from the crash. Both were wearing seat belts, which likely spared them from serious injuries.

Preliminary investigations show that at the time of the collision, the 4Runner was heading east on County Road TT, while the Passat was heading in the opposite direction. The presence of alcohol is suspected to have contributed to the crash. Investigations into the accident are still ongoing.
