The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office apprehended a 23-year-old Ruston local, Tyler L. Smith, on last Friday evening following an accident on South Barnett Springs Road involving his pickup truck. Officers arrived at the scene of the single-vehicle collision around 8:30 p.m. Friday. Investigatory procedures inferred that the cause of the vehicle veering off the road and crashing was unknown. Smith, visibly injured and bleeding from a head wound, was unsure of the event’s details and was subsequently rushed to the North Louisiana Medical Center by Ruston Ambulance Service.
At the hospital, Smith was questioned about the reasons for veering off the road. He stated that he had consumed alcohol prior to the incident and had taken a sleep-inducing medicine. He admitted that this had impaired his driving capability. A blood sample was collected for lab testing. Post-treatment, he was arrested and transferred to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. He was booked for first offense DWI, reckless driving, and an appearance order for failing to attend court on charges of marijuana possession in Ruston City. His bail is set at $6,500.
