Man Arrested for DUI, Burglary, Assault & Weapons Charges in Cantonment: NorthEscambia.com

A man from Cantonment is facing various charges, including DUI and weapon possession, after an accident on Highway 297A. The man, 28-year-old Kody Stephen Faxlanger, is accused of brandishing a firearm during a felony, burglary with assault, reckless driving, fleeing an accident scene that resulted in property damage, refusing a DUI test after license suspension, and operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Florida Highway Patrol was called to a traffic rollover incident near Highway 297A and Eight Mile Creek Road. The homeowner told the patrol officer that he heard the crash in his front yard and saw a man, later identified as Faxlanger, approaching his house, stating he needed to retrieve his gun before returning to his car. The homeowner subsequently went back inside his house.

According to the homeowner’s report, Faxlanger entered an unlocked garage and began beating on a door leading to the house, before running away. Faxlanger was later found by Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies and was taken into custody.

Faxlanger’s car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, veered off the road, traveled 542 feet and hit a concrete culvert, launching it into the air, where it spun for 197 before landing in the yard of a house. Two 16-ounce beer cans were found in the car, still cold and with condensation on them.

The patrol officer stated that Faxlanger smelled strongly of alcohol, and his eyes were bloodshot and watery, and had slurred speech. Faxlanger declined to offer a breath sample and was taken to Baptist Hospital for treatment. At the hospital, Faxlanger allegedly admitted to driving the wrecked car and disposing of a gun after fleeing the scene. A 9mm Palmetto Dagger gun with a loaded 11-round magazine and a bullet in the chamber were found. Faxlanger’s driver’s license was found near the weapon.

At present, Faxlanger is detained in the Escambia County Jail with his bail set at $13,500.
