DWI arrest after solo car crash | Local News

On January 27, Officer P. Dueitt from the Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported to a car crash on Virginia Street at approximately 10:02 p.m. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Samantha Clemmons of Halifax, had veered off the road and hit two metal fences and a child’s playset at a close-by daycare facility. The press release from Chief C. Shane Guyant stated that Officer Dueitt picked up a smell of alcohol from Clemmons during the investigation. After agreeing to a Standardized Field Sobriety Test performed by Sgt. C. Hagbourne, Clemmons revealed signs of being inebriated. She declined any further roadside tests and was arrested and taken to the police department for a breathalyzer test. Clemmons refused to take this test despite repeated attempts, which led to obtaining a search warrant for securing a blood sample from a local hospital. Clemmons has been charged with impaired driving, reckless and careless driving, and damage to property. After getting a $750 bond, Clemmons was let go with a court date scheduled for February 12.
