Canyon Lake DUI Checkpoint Enforcement Planned

At the last city council meeting for Canyon Lake in December, Lieutenant Will Edwards from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department presented the year’s statistics regarding DUIs and traffic accidents in the city. Edwards also announced upcoming plans for three more enforcement operations and a DUI checkpoint which are expected to take place before the end of September, 2024.

A $34,358.00 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) has provided the necessary funding to support continuing law enforcement actions and educational programs designed to decrease the number of serious injuries and fatalities on Canyon Lake roads. The grant will fund additional initiatives and resources, like DUI checkpoints and patrols specifically targeting impaired driving.

The current grant from OTS is valid through September 30, 2024, and can potentially be renewed yearly following an application process.
