Erwin Lanza, a 37-year-old man from Gatlinburg, Tennessee, is facing multiple charges including driving under the influence and aggravated assault. This comes after he crashed his vehicle in Knox County and got into an altercation with an off-duty sheriff. The incident took place on Dec 23, near Turkey Creek on the I-40. Witnesses, including Loudon County Sheriff Jimmy Davis, reported seeing Lanza hit several cars before crashing into a concrete barrier. Davis followed Lanza’s vehicle and was injured when he confronted him following the crash. Post-crash, Lanza admitted to hitting four vehicles and was also implicated in hitting a construction truck. He has been held in custody with an immigration hold and is awaiting a bond hearing set for Dec 28.
