During the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign, the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) arrested 65 drivers on charges of driving under the influence (DUI). The campaign, a national initiative, took place between December 15th and January 1st.
In addition to the DUI arrests, the NSP issued 985 speeding tickets, 51 of which were for speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. Violations also included 15 cases of not wearing seat belts, 14 instances of improper child restraints, 31 incidents of open alcohol containers, 35 minors found in possession of alcohol, and 111 cases of driving under suspension.
During the period of the campaign, NSP troopers also aided 656 drivers and responded to 123 accidents. The patrol continues to remind drivers to prepare for cold-weather driving over the coming months, advising them to check road conditions using Nebraska’s 511 system. They also recommend keeping essential items like a first-aid kit, warm clothing, a cell phone charger, jumper cables, sand or salt for traction, and an ice scraper in the vehicle.
