In Jupiter, Florida, a teen girl was severely hurt in an off-roading accident in December, where she ended up trapped underneath the vehicle. The sheriff’s department has since arrested the driver of the vehicle for charges that include DUI and fleeing the scene of an accident.
On December 22, 2023, 37-year-old Ryan McCue was driving a Can-Am Defender, an off-road utility vehicle, on Mellen Lane near the intersection with Randolph Siding Road around 11:32 p.m.
According to reports, McCue and his five passengers approached an intersection at high speed. McCue failed to stop and drove onto the shoulder of the road before swerving to avoid hitting three warning signs. The off-road vehicle started to spin and subsequently flipped over into a canal.
In the crash, a 16-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle and got pinned under it when it landed in the canal. When she was finally retrieved from the water, the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue commenced life-saving measures and transported her to St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Two other passengers and McCue suffered minor injuries. The accident report reveals that McCue was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the crash.
McCue was arrested on Monday and is facing charges that include reckless driving resulting in serious bodily harm, DUI, fleeing the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily harm, child neglect causing significant bodily harm, and failure to register a motor vehicle.
