DUI Suspect Denies Guilt in Fatal Carlsbad Crash

Angela Marie Hays, aged 28, from Corona, pleaded not guilty to charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. She is accused of causing a highway accident in Carlsbad, which resulted in the deaths of a married couple from Northern California. The alleged drunk driving incident involved Hays crashing into a Jeep causing it to overturn, which was then hit by a Nissan Altima. The female passenger of the Jeep died at the scene, and the male driver, later identified as Jose Geraldo Lozano, died in hospital. The Nissan driver also sustained major injuries, but survived. Hays could face up to nearly 14 years in prison if convicted. The victims, Lozano and his wife Luz Maria Duran Rios, leave behind six children and eight grandchildren. A GoFundMe page is collecting donations for funeral costs and their return journey to Richmond.
