DUI Arrest After Severe Crash Injures 13, Including 8 Kids

A serious motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles occurred in Hughesville, Maryland on March 31, 2024. Police and emergency teams were alerted to the incident on Prince Frederick Road near Siesta Fields Place around 10:50 pm. They arrived at a scene involving multiple injuries, including a person trapped in one of the vehicles. The trapped individual was safely extricated from the backseat by firefighters within 30 minutes.

The emergency medical services checked a total of thirteen passengers in a Chrysler van involved in the accident. The occupants comprised five adults and eight children, with ages ranging from two weeks to twelve years. The injured were subsequently transported to different hospitals in the region.

Preliminary investigations by the Maryland State Police revealed that the Chrysler van, which was stationary on the roadside, was hit from behind by a Honda Accord. The driver of the Honda Accord, identified as 54-year-old Troy Jones from Huntingtown, Maryland, was arrested and faces charges of drunk driving and other related traffic violations. He is currently held at the Charles County Detention Center, awaiting his preliminary court appearance.

The driver of the Chrysler van may also be charged, pending a meeting with the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office.
