Christmas Crash and Fatality Reduction, DUI Citations Increase

Pennsylvania State Police’s (PSP) annual Christmas crash and enforcement report for 2023 indicated a slight decrease in accidents and resulting fatalities over the three-day Christmas holiday. The report detailed a total of 404 accidents, in contrast to the 661 from the previous year, resulting in three deaths and 70 injuries. However, despite the reduction in accidents, there was an increase in citations issued and DUI arrests made. Troopers reported 198 DUI arrests, over 1,000 speeding citations, and almost 3,000 other violations, up from 116 DUI arrests, 451 speeding tickets, and over 2,300 other offenses in the previous year.
