Bremerton Police have identified a man who they believe killed a woman, then caused several driving under the influence (DUI) crashes early Monday morning. The Washington State Patrol said a DUI suspected driver hit a number of vehicles and drove off around 7 a.m. on Monday. Trooper Katherine Weatherwax reported the accidents took place on the northbound State Route 3 near Trigger.
The man was eventually arrested near Fimm Hill Road after abandoning his pickup truck. He was charged with felony hit-and-run and suspected DUI. After hitting the cars, the man reportedly fled on foot, seeking refuge in a stranger’s pickup truck, whose driver then alerted 911.
On Tuesday night, February 6th, Bremerton police received a welfare check call from a residence on the 5000 block of 5th Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a 45-year-old woman dead inside the house. Further investigation linked the deceased woman case to Stephen Harvey, the man who was involved in Monday’s DUI crashes. Harvey, already in custody at the Kitsap County Jail, is now facing charges of murder, driving under the influence, hit-and-run, and reckless driving.
