Fort Myers DUI Arrest Follows High-Speed Chase

A man was arrested after trying to escape from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) in the southern part of Fort Myers. He was driving a Chevy Camaro when he was flagged down by officers due to a modified and overly loud exhaust. Rather than stopping, the driver sped off, reaching speeds over 140 MPH. He then made a dangerous move over a raised median, which resulted in damage to his Camaro, before coming to a halt in a parking lot near Colonial Boulevard. The pursuit didn’t end there, however, as the driver attempted to escape on foot before being quickly apprehended by officers. The man, who exhibited a strong smell of alcohol, was charged with fleeing and driving under the influence. FHP mentioned that he had been marking his birthday. The driver’s identity is still being determined. NBC2 will keep audiences updated.
