The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) announced that it is broadening an ongoing internal investigation following reports of a federal probe into some of its officers. The expanded APD investigation now also includes a lieutenant from the Internal Affairs Division. The unidentified subject of the inquiry has been reassigned temporarily.
APD’s Chief Medina asserted that no aspect of the investigation would be overlooked. Later this week, Mark Landovazo, the commander of internal affairs, was put on leave in connection with the ongoing probe into alleged misconduct by officers handling DWI cases. It was confirmed that Commander Kyle Hartsock would assume temporary control of the internal affairs division.
As of February 16, five APD officers, including the one under investigation, have been put on administrative leave, and one has resigned. None of the officers have been officially charged with crimes related to the investigations, according to the APD.
