A woman from Smyrna, Tennessee, is currently in custody in Maury County for allegedly causing a severe accident by crashing into a vehicle that had stalled on the interstate. The incident, which took place near the 38-mile marker on I-65 South, led to a man being seriously injured. The suspect, identified as Quashonda Williams, is said to have driven off the interstate, onto the shoulder, and then collided with the stopped car.
The injured man had to be extricated from his vehicle by Maury County Fire crews and was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center. His identity and injury severity are not yet known. Williams, aged 30, was kept under police watch as they carried out their investigation.
Williams reportedly told a deputy at the scene that she could not recall the incident only that she was “knocked off the road.” A 911 caller claimed Williams was driving without lights for approximately 25 miles. When questioned about this, Williams claimed ignorance about her lights being off. She also admitted to the deputy that she was driving southbound on I-65 back to Smyrna.
In an unusual dialogue, Williams was caught on body camera holding a perfume bottle as though it were a mobile phone. She now faces charges for DUI, vehicular assault, driving on a suspended license, and reckless driving. She declined to comment on the incident at the Maury County jail. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is conducting the investigation, but has not provided any information about the other driver involved in the accident.
