Around 8:00 pm last Wednesday, Galesburg Police were called to a solo car crash at the crossing of West Fremont and North Henderson Streets. A Jeep SUV had gone off the road and crashed into an Ameren utility pole, which had been uprooted and along with power lines was obstructing the road. GHAS was already present at the spot. The police noted several open alcohol containers and the GHAS staff informed them about the male driver’s inability to maintain balance while walking. More unopened alcohol containers and a loaded 9mm handgun were discovered in a bag. Furthermore, the man’s 6-year-old daughter was in the car at the time and informed the police that she wasn’t properly fastened in a child safety seat. She was later released to her grandparents. The man declined to partake in a field sobriety test or offer a breath sample. He was ultimately taken to the Knox County Jail where he was charged with DUI, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, multiple traffic offences, and Endangering the Life of a Child. The DCFS was also informed about the incident.
