A man from Bridgeville is facing charges after he reportedly crashed his moped in Milton on December 22. The police claim that he had a loaded gun and a bottle of brandy in his backpack at the time of the crash. The authorities identified the man as Michael Lewis, 33, who allegedly attempted to flee the scene of the incident which occurred around 7 p.m. at the intersection of Gravel Hill Road and Webb Road.
Upon his arrival at the scene, a police officer detected signs of impairment. Lewis refused to produce any form of identification. However, upon searching Lewis’s backpack, police discovered a loaded gun, a bottle of brandy, and documents that revealed Lewis’s identity. A subsequent computer search indicated that Lewis is a convicted felon and, as such, is banned from owning a gun.
Lewis was taken to Troop 4, where he was charged with felony possession of a firearm (given his past felony conviction), possession of a firearm while impaired, alcohol-induced driving, driving with a revoked license, and other traffic violations.
Following his arraignment at the Justice of the Peace Court 2, Lewis was sent to the Sussex Correctional Institution for failing to meet the set secured bond of $6,503.
