The Irving Police Department has recently shared its 2023 data on Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) cases, underscoring the importance of being extra careful on the roads during the festive season.
The department will be significantly increasing its vigilance from now till January 1st, enhancing its efforts to spot and detain people driving while under the influence of alcohol. The increased festivity and social events during the holiday season usually come with a higher risk of accidents involving drunk drivers.
In 2023, the Irving Police made a total of 815 DWI arrests, probed into 44 significant collisions, and registered 28 fatalities.
To reinforce their cautionary message, Irving Police are using the hashtags #endthestreaktx and #planwhileyoucan on various social media channels. The aim is to inspire drivers to make smart decisions and refrain from driving if they have consumed any alcoholic beverages.
They further underscore that the average cost of a first DWI is around $10,000, whereas the cost of using an affordable and responsible rideshare service like Uber or a taxi is generally about $25.
