A man named Benjamin Guiang has been apprehended on charges of driving under the influence of drugs and allegedly causing a fatal accident that killed his two passengers in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The accident took place on the southbound Unser route around 1 a.m. on Friday, according to the Albuquerque police. The two passengers were thrown out of the vehicle and pronounced dead at the site of the accident. Guiang was extricated from the vehicle and quickly taken to the UNM Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to the neck and back. Despite no initial suspicion of alcohol influence or concrete evidence of drug consumption at the accident site, Guiang purportedly admitted to a bystander that he had used cannabis a few hours prior to driving. Additionally, he confessed to consuming cannabis earlier the day of the accident, though wasn’t certain of the quantity consumed. Guiang reported that he lost control of the car and crashed while speeding towards a sharp turn. He was subsequently arrested and is now facing two charges of DWI vehicular homicide.
