The incident took place at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23 in Smithtown. A police officer from Suffolk County Police Fourth Precinct was sitting in his parked car on Route 25A at Oakside Road when a 2020 Nissan Rogue hit the back of his patrol car.
At the time of the accident, the officer was waiting for a tow truck following an unrelated accident on Route 25 that also involved a driver charged with drunk driving. The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-critical injuries.
The Nissan Rogue driver, 25-year-old Katelyn Lynch from Smithtown, was arrested for driving under the influence and taken to the hospital for treatment before being released. Lynch is scheduled to appear at the First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday, March 24.
