In two separate incidents this week, South Kingstown police arrested Charles H. Lafreniere, 74, and William J. Moreland IV, 41, on charges of DUI.
Lafreniere was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon following a car crash on Route 1 south, near Saugatucket Road. Police reported finding empty alcohol containers in his car and observed indications of severe intoxication. His arrest took place at 4:40 p.m.
Moreland was apprehended on Wednesday at 1:48 a.m, after being pulled over for speeding on Tuckertown Road. The arresting officers noted that Moreland’s eyes were watery and there was a strong smell of alcohol on his breath.
Following his accident, Lafreniere was taken to South County Hospital to treat his injuries and released with a court summons. Both Moreland and Lafreniere face charges for a second offense of driving under the influence and refusal to undergo a chemical test.
Moreland furthermore faces charges of driving with an expired license, operating a vehicle with a suspended registration, and speeding. Both men are scheduled to appear in Washington County District Court on January 11.
