St. Patrick’s Day DUI Checkpoints in LA – NBC

Southlanders anticipation the St. Patrick’s Day festivities have been alerted by authorities today that there will be an increased presence of law enforcement officers. These officers will be actively looking for individuals who are driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.

According to LAPD Cmdr. Craig Valenzuela, in preparation for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day, the Los Angeles Police Department will be vigilant for potential impaired drivers and urges the public to enjoy responsibly. He advises the community to designate a sober driver as a safe way to enjoy the celebrations without putting the safety of others at risk.

Starting from Friday, enforcement measures will be in place. These include LAPD DUI saturation patrols at different timings across various areas of the city. A DUI checkpoint will also be established from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday at Western Avenue and Venice Boulevard. The LAPD will continue to maintain a DUI checkpoint on Saturday at La Brea Avenue and Obama Boulevard and a DUI saturation patrol will take place on Sunday in the North Hollywood area.

In addition to the LAPD, a plethora of municipal law enforcement agencies across the county and the California Highway Patrol are expected to increase traffic enforcement on March 17.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that there were 47 fatal accidents associated with alcohol during the Irish-themed celebrations in 2021. The California Office of Traffic Safety is providing extra funding to aid additional patrols and overtime on St. Patrick’s Day.
